So you have a website. Great! If you’re reading this article, you know that that’s not enough to bring you more views, higher Google rankings, or what you’re really after: more business. Here you’ll learn the five necessary elements of every good business website, no matter what industry.

Looking for experienced professionals who can take your website to the next level? Let's talk about how you can grow.

1. About Us Page

Studies show that your about page is one of the most landed on pages when new viewers visit your site. That’s why it’s crucial to make sure this page is compelling enough to make viewers enthusiastic about your brand. You need to succinctly convey your company’s purpose and personality in a way that doesn’t bore the reader, but engages them. You must also show that you are qualified and experienced to solve their problem. And don’t forget the contact information! A great page won’t convert if you don’t put any way for the customer to contact you.

Not to brag, but the about page we created for SuiteBriar is pretty neat! It explains their mission, displays a testimonial, injects some personality, and overall proves that they have the know-how to help potential customers. Try and remember some other websites you visited with great about pages. Did that company stick out to you? Do you trust them more now that you understand who they are?

Be willing to re-write your about page many, many times. It’s worth it.

2. Clear Navigation Structure

You know how frustrating it is when you are visiting a website and you just can’t find the information you need. Once you finally find the link, buried under tons of content and confusing wording, you wonder why it wasn’t easier to find in the first place. No one enjoys this, and when companies do this, it wastes the viewer’s time and loses the company business. Evaluate the most visited pages on your website and make sure that these pages are easy to find. Make sure you have a central navigation bar. That’s this blue bar right here:

Each of the buttons on the navigation bar display several options if you hover over them. These pages and links were specifically chosen because they give the most value to our website visitors.

Make sure your site is easy to navigate. It will go a long way to help your customers and help your business.

3. Responsive Design + Optimizing Your Site for Mobile

This one is a no-brainer. More and more people are looking at your site on their phone or tablet instead of their desktop. A site that is not designed to handle different screen sizes and browsers will display poorly on different devices. What does that mean for you? More customers will take one look at your site and leave (bouncing) because your site looks poorly made on their screen.

Don’t lose valuable customers because of your site design! Optimize your website so it looks great across multiple devices.

4. Blog

Ah yes, the blog. This is notoriously one of the hardest website elements to get right. We will go into the details in a later post, but the reason that having a blog is so important is twofold:

First, it boosts your Google rankings. When you are consistently producing quality content that provides value for your audience, Google notices. This brings more potential customers to your site, raising your site rank even more. That is why blogging is a must for search engine optimization (SEO). You want to have every possible advantage to get to that coveted first page position.

Second, producing quality content gives a reason for potential customers to come back to your website, where they can be prompted to make a purchase or schedule a service.

For example, if you own a dry-cleaning company, you could post about clothing care tips and fashion advice. These posts attract potential customers who care about their clothing and are more likely to use your service. Past customers reading the blog post will also remember that they need to use your service.

Blogging boosts search engine rankings and benefits both the reader and the blogger.

5. FAQ Page

Even if you’ve already written detailed and compelling copy about your main products and services, you will still have people ask you questions about your process that don’t belong on those pages. The FAQ section is a great place to answer common questions about your business.

If people have already asked a question about something, it’s likely that they will ask again. Make it easy for them to find these answers with the FAQ page.

Your site should be as awesome as your company, but most importantly, it must communicate your message. These five elements (About Page, Navigation Structure, Responsive Design, Blog, & FAQ Page) are all tools that enable you to better connect with your customers. Use them well.
